I asked for this thread, I really enjoy camping and the outdoors.
I have a tent and a pop-up camper. Most of the time I use the camper but every once in a while go roughing it in the tent.
I do spend most of my time in state, and fishing, but have explored quite a bit in the South Western states and have camped along the east coast. The best, and usually the least expensive, are the federal recreation areas. National parks, national forest parks, and the Army Corps of Engineer parks.
The best two national parks I have visited are Big Bend in Texas and Stone mountain in Georgia. Arizona and New Mexico also have nice national parks too but they are more primitive and you really need a complete self contained RV.
When the grandkids go, they stay in a tent. They love to go with grandpa but they stay up most of the night!
Anybody else camp?

I used to go camping, haven't been in awhile though. It is a lot of fun. Fish too, but I never catch any, guess you could say I feed the fish. What do you fish for? Trout? I fish for relaxation. I don't eat fish, but if I catch one worth keeping then I will fillet it and either give it away or just throw it back for someone else to catch. But like you I rarely to never catch any. Sometimes I'll just throw a line out without bait and watch the cork bob in the waves.

I don't camp but I'm thinking about going to Mesa Verde National Park. They have a Camp Grounds and Lodges. Has anyone every checked it out? I haven't been there but it is on the bucket list of parks to visit. If you go before I do then fill us in on what you did and sites to visit.

I will, are you aware of what type place it is. To me it's interesting and a history lesson at the same time. Yes I do, and it is one park where you probably could spend a week right there in the park.

My son and his family have done some camping with my grand-daughters over the years. My father liked camping. Eventually my father bought a airstream trailer for our mother to sleep in and cook in. My son has bought an RV and his entire family no longer sleeps in tents. There are many campgrounds on the Oregon Coast. Harris Beach Campground

We used to go camping just about every weekend. Back on a riverbank somewhere away from everyone. Enjoying the fresh air, the outdoors. The smell of brewing coffee & fish cooking on the campfire. Nothing any better! I haven't been able to do it in a long time. I can still fish, just have to have a good bed to rest at bedtime...no more sleeping bags or camp cots for granny.

My sleeping tents on the ground days are behind me. I sold all my equipment. My fishing days however have increased. We now have a cabin at a lake about 80 miles from here with a dock and my old pontoon boat. It's not much to look at but it has a good reliable motor. Plus the fish don't know what it looks like. I catch largemouth, catfish and LOTS of more pooppie. I made a fish attractor from about thirty Christmas trees in 15 feet of water about 30 feet off the back of the boat. I turn my seat around, put the top up and, if I don't doze off, catch fish all day.

People have put up fences, locked gates & no trespassing signs. It's because all the aholes who left big messes on their property. I wouldn't want anyone camping out on mine either if I had to go clean up their mess. Some people,....ruins it for everyone!

I have petitioned our new admin to make changes to the smut-buster, at least as it relates to the word c r a p, as in c r a p p i e, which makes a tasty sandwich.

I failed as a fisherman. We went deep sea fishing for King salmon on a charter boat. My brother caught a good sized King, and I got a bite. I was eating a big hunk candybar at the time. The skipper yelled, "Drop The Candy Bar Kid !" "Drop The Candy Bar !". To me, the candy bar was more important than the fish. By the time the skipper took the pole, the fish was gone.
I'm not sure how to edit the smut-buster. It may be one of those things that is only possible with full ownership of the forum.

I don't know what you see from your view but on my forum you click "Admin" at the top of the page, click "Settings" (there's an icon with a gear and a screwdriver) and then click "Censored Words". You enter the word you want to censor and a replacement word. Obviously the word c r a p is replaced with poop. Actually, I find the word poop much more disgusting than c r a p, but different strokes for different folks I guess. POOP POOP POOP POOP POOP!!
