So similar to some other boards I have been on, if you do not agree with them they start telling you what you like. Then proceed to rant and rave about something you were not even discussing. Atheist- Oh you like God do you? You like a God that kills innocent people? That is sending people to hell? You like Him huh? How sad. You are a terrible person. You are crazy. Something here sounds so very familiar. How sad. Then start telling saying things you never said. Been through this more poop before. It has been beat to death. MEAN WHAT YOU SAY AND SAY WHAT YOU MEAN.

I believe I did say what I mean. You were discussing Andrew Jackson. You brought the subject up . Where were Atheists discussed? I didn't bring up Atheists .How is that relevant to the discussion ? You were using Andrew Jackson as a role model. For all the pain and bloodletting he brought against the Creek Nation, I strongly disagree with you. That was a very weak analogy and comparison to John McCain. You have to know that Jackson is a very bad subject for Native Americans. The term 'baloney' in reply to such atrocities is inappropriate in every sense of the word. ( dayrain: Atheist- Oh you like God do you? You like a God that kills innocent people? That is sending people to hell? You like Him huh? How sad. You are a terrible person. You are crazy. Something here sounds so very familiar. ) Ok, you've lost me on that one. I have no idea what you are talking about there. Are you implying that I am an Atheist ? FYI the word 'crazy' or 'terrible person' was never used. I think the term was 'insensitive' Your last sentence sounds very familiar.. I think a lot of us have heard that verbatim before.

I'm sorry you feel that way, however I will never apologize for the way I feel about the treatment of Native Americans at the hand of Andrew Jackson. Any American who condones his behavior and goes on to say they 'like him' is missing the big picture. Santayana wrote (in The Life of Reason, 1905): “Those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it.

Chat rooms and message boards are nice but at times it's no place for people with thin skin.

As I said, I'm of Creek heritage and the subject of Jackson and the Trail of Tears is a hot topic for me. That being said, I'm sorry dayrain felt as though she had to leave. I wish she would reconsider.

I really have a hard time seeing where she was mistreated, maybe she was just having a bad day. The fact that the Native Americans (not just the Creek, but many) were mistreated is historical fact. You can start that with the "purchase" of Manhattan Island for $24 or even the mere word "Conquistadores."
By the same token (just another side of it) so were Blacks, Jews and even the English (Bretons/Celts) who were carried off to be slaves in Rome. Pick your time and place, the odds are people have been mis-treated, often murderously.
It is always better to look in times and circumstances for blaming rather than individuals when it comes to such evil. No "leading" individual has the power to act alone. Most often people don't know enough of the historical circumstances to form a clear opinion. In the case of Andrew Jackson, the odds are if it had not been him, it would have been someone else. Native Americans were viewed as a bloody enemy by the white man, which they were because they were desperately defending their homes and families from invasionary forces that had greater power and notions of rightfulness about their actions (be they right or wrong).
As I see it, Dayrain didn't want to be hassled having already been hassled somewhere on things from religion on down.
I would like to see her come back. A petition handed over by Administration who would have her email address might do it, but maybe not. Just because priestly abuse is not acceptable doesn't mean Christianity has no value; and, just because Andrew Jackson slaughtered what was perceived to be an enemy, doesn't mean he as a person had no value. He was doing what people wanted done.

Andrew Jackson, as a person, a president and the murderer of innocent women, elderly and children, has absolutely no value as far as I'm concerned. The killing of the women, babies, etc, was his decision alone. "Andrew Jackson recommended that troops systematically kill Indian women and children after massacres in order to complete the extermination. " Read more at indiancountrytodaymedianetwork.com/2012/02/20/indian-killer-andrew-jackson-deserves-top-spot-list-worst-us-presidents-98997" Not all white men viewed Native Americans as the 'bloody enemy". A large number of Scot traders had a good working relationship with the Creek Nation. It was a give and take relationship.. not all 'take' But the subject was not about the Celts, Jews, although I did compare Jackson to Hitler. Any person who attempts to eradicate an entire ethnic group is a genocidal maniac, be it Jackson or Hitler. This subject is akin to telling a person of African American heritage that slavery was basically 'baloney' Everyone is entitled to their own thoughts and opinions. (carpathianpeseant: As I see it, Dayrain didn't want to be hassled having already been hassled somewhere on things from religion on down. ) Everyone has baggage. I have no idea where she was so terribly mistreated. I had nothing to do with it. As far as being 'hassled about religion' Insight and Paths were major conduits for 'Christian bashing'.. It was a daily occurrance. If everyone left who was 'hassled about religion' there would have been no one left except the Atheists.
She and I disagreed about Bill Clinton. I said I liked him, she did not. She went on to tell me why she thought he was basically a 'sleezeball' Fine, that was her opinion to which she was entitled. I didn't jump up and leave because she expressed her opinion. The subject of Andrew Jackson was her's.. she brought it up, and took offense to my rebuttal. When you bring up a certain subject, you have to be prepared to hear others' opinions. That's just the way things work.

I am a history buff and I don't want to stir up a hornets nest but did you know that a good many Cherokee are black. Reason was the Cherokee's owned more slaves than any other group in the country 5,000 plus. When they were freed many stayed with the tribe.

Yes, I did know that, also that Blacks were welcomed by the Seminole. even though the Seminole had some black slaves they also 'took in runaway slaves' and they lived together in peace. Some remaining Creeks who weren't slaughtered, joined the Seminole. Warring tribes often took prisoners from the losing tribe as slaves. The Seminole take pride in claiming they are the only Native American Nation who never made a treaty with the white man.

FYI, lady: I bookmarked and read through your site days ago when I first saw it. It isn't wise to underestimate people, especially if you propose to preach as to what is right, true, best, etc.

Once there was Native American remains dug up at a construction site here. Company officials met with members of AIM and I was with them. I met Chico Dulak and Tom Pierce both with AIM. A few days later this Seminole man showed up and they had me to talk with him. I was surprised how big he was and how dark, he was actually black.

C.P. I read most of that and I really didn't see any problem with what skylar said. You think she might have taken it the wrong way. I am famous for saying things the wrong way and creating ire.
