Sodomites use to be a joke, they were called queers. Now they hold a lofty status and are called gays and have ruined another perfectly good word. I have a lot of compassion for Gay people. I think it should be like Clinton said don't ask don't tell, but when they flaunt it and it's in your face, Then my compassion starts to fade.

I think it should be like Clinton said don't ask don't tell, but when they flaunt it and it's in your face, Then my compassion starts to fade. That is a fact. How about rainbow. It was a sign God sent the people to assure them He would never flood the world again. Now every time I look at it I just get sick. As you I have compassion on all people. If they want to be homosexuals that is their business, except when they intrude on your life and make it yours. It is their choice, and yes they knew the consequences of choosing an alternative lifestyle that some religions are against, that some people find disgusting and some people actually hate. Of course there will some who do not want to deal with them, or for that matter even be around them. Forcing others to accept and like you is not respecting their freedom of choice does not look good on them. It does not look good on them at all. Especially for Christians, who believe marriage is between a man and a woman, ordained by God. Muslims would kill them, many countries in Africa do, elsewise in the world their relationships are not accepted and are frowned upon. Do you think Muslim bakers will bake them a wedding cake? Or even a cake for that matter. And forcing Christians to accept it is nothing short of religious persecution. Discredit the Bible, then God, then anything goes. The Bible is our rock, our foundation, God is the author, if we deviate from that we are lost. Then we can and often do fall for anything.

John 10:10 The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it (life)more abundantly. How does handling snakes within the confines of religious beliefs fit the above scripture? People are dying, women and children are being abused and the leadership promotes it. Spurious faith. I agree. That's the outcome when one group bases their entire spiritual belief system on one or two verses taken ( out of context ) from the Bible and dismisses all the rest of the scriptures. One of my Grandmother's favorite examples was : 'Judas went and hanged himself".... " Go thou and do like wise"
( Probably not verbatim, but you get the idea. ) It behooves us all to be careful to not fall into the same trap. Keeping His Word is in its entirety, spiritually speaking. Otherwise, we become thieves, an individual Who opposeth and exalteth himself above all that is called God, or that is worshipped; so that he as God sitteth in the temple of God, shewing himself that he is God. The earth becomes his throne and heaven his footstool, just the opposite of the way God would have it.

People aren't going to be swayed against the practice, no matter how many people die. With all this talk about freedom of religion ,brought to the forefront by Arizona's SB 1062 , it will only reinforce the snake handler's commitment. I say " Have at it" ,as long as it's voluntary and no children under 18 are participating or are forced to participate.. at that point it's called 'Child endangerment' and that raises it to a new level. Polygamy is illegal, but people claim their religious right to numerous wives.. Any man who can try to please six-seven women on a rotating basis, is either very brave or very stupid or is a sexual anomaly "Hell knows no fury like a woman scorned" Wonder why it's always 'numerous wives' ? Why not 'numerous husbands' ? Numerous husbands = numerous bank accounts but after reconsideration, that would mean numerous children.. I mean NUMEROUS ... never mind. At least with numerous wives, one woman doesn't have to do all the childbearing. I'm from Kentucky and know very well about this story. A good friend of mine has followed this man (who had passed) and wrote a wonderful book about him and his faith. My friend believed what he practiced from his long time following and they got to be good friends.

I have a very good friend who was the court recorder in the trial back in the 80s for the 'minister' ( I use that term loosley ) who was accused of attempted murder of his wife by snake bite. Interesting book called 'Salvation on Sand Mountain'. It delved into the snake handling community in depth. An interesting read

My friend wrote: Taking up Serpents" and is working on another book now about the situation now, he told me recently. Then I'll bet he knows the author of 'Salvation on Sand Mountain.' I can't think of his name right now, but it's in another thread here somewhere. I would like to read your friend's book.
