Most churches have a kitchens and after church at times they have nice meals for the members. My church is no different. Out in the parking lot are several Lexus cars and no one looks malnourished. I ask why don't we get some insulated containers and take food down to the tent city here and feed the homeless. It was promptly rejected. We have a lot of homeless people here that live under viaducts, overpasses and bridges, many have tents. Stuff like this breaks my heart, not because my idea was rejected but because there are people that apparently no one cares about, not even the church.

That is really, really sad. I've been successful at asking several fast food restaurants to donate perfectly good left over food to homeless shelters. State health regs prevent food that has been fully prepared one day to be served the next, especially things like chicken and pizza. The waste of food in this country is mind boggling, especially when so many are going hungry. Of course I've been turned down too. I don't know if it's corporate rules or just lazy management,it seems easier to throw the food away than donate to a worthy cause. It always helps when you tell them you will arrange for transport of the food and where it's going so they know for sure you aren't attempting to sell it.

One night at work a man walked in, someone had forgotten to lock the door. It's was raining and he was wet. he ask to use the restroom and I said ok, there it is. I called security down to where I was. He wanted to stay for a while and the guard said No, you have to leave. He said it's raining harder now. I said here take my umbrella, he said but I can't return it. I said it's ok take it. With that he left. We watched him as he climbed a fence and start thumbing a ride down I65. No telling where that umbrella ended up.
Yeah, I've been accused of being stupid more than once. My point is it never hurts to be nice to people.

One does not know of any test of our spirit's intentions.

One of our families favorite all time meals was the memory we had of having a cold lobster dinner at a church in New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, in August, 1978.

We should take advantage of every opportunity we have to be nice to people. I worked one night with an old man he happened to be a black man. He started telling me about his philosophy of life. He said I just refuse to let another man treat me better then I treat him. I had never heard that before. We need more people that believe like him.
