King James BibleAnd it came to pass on the second sabbath after the first, that he went through the corn fields; and his disciples plucked the ears of corn, and did eat, rubbing them in their hands.
Question: Corn did not exist in the middle east at the time of Jesus. It also did not exist in Europe at the time the King James version was written. Corn existed only in the Americas and it was called maize.
The newer Bible versions say grain.
I just wondered what your take on it is.

That falls under the umbrella of so many things I do not understand in the Bible. This brings back the post where I stated that I often need someone to interpret things in the Bible for me.

I think everyone is that way to one degree or another. That is one question I don't know the answer to. It's interesting, something simple I'm missing, I'm sure.

I think translation is to blame in many matters. I can only hope the the important things haven't fallen victim to language or translation

I think translation is to blame in many matters. I can only hope the the important things haven't fallen victim to language or translation I think you're right. When the King James version was written corn referred to grain (loosely). I looked it up and it is said people in England have no trouble with the KJV of corn, They know what it means. Over several hundred years the meaning of the word has changed especially here in the U.S..

Thanks for your reply. I wondered for a long time about that and since I read only the KJV I run into it often.

There is a book found probably at amazon or a good Bible book store called, The King James Bible Word Book, Thomas Nelson Publishers. It is a dictionary that illuminates the 1611 text. A good book to add to one's reference library.

One Bible I avoid is the NIV, Rupert Murdoch has the rights to it as well as the Santic Bible and also Zondervan. The NIV Bible has whole verses missing. The people that put it together eliminated some verses feeling they were not necessary. I have all the missing verses and where to find them if anyone is interested. Harpercolins which Murdoch owns has of late bought Thomas Nelson Bible Company also.
