Another shooting at Ft Hood, killing four and injuring fourteen. That's the info incoming at the present. This may change in the next few hours.Details are sketchy. Apparently the shooter then turned the gun on himself. www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/02/fort-hood-shooting_n_5079690.html?icid=maing-grid7%7Cmain5%7Cdl1%7Csec1_lnk3%26pLid%3D460611"A shooting at Fort Hood on Wednesday left at least four people dead and injured multiple people. The gunman at the Army post in Texas reportedly died of a self-inflicted wound. In addition to the four reported fatalities, an anonymous official, citing Justice Department updates, said there were 14 people wounded. The base remained on lock down hours after orders to shelter in place were issued, the Washington Post reports.

The Supreme Court shot down an appeal for a stay of execution because of the drugs they use to execute prisoners last night and the convicted killer was executed and Fort Hood shooting. Saw on the news that he got his pistol from the same gun shop that the first shooter got his. Right now the gun shop is closed while they are being investigated. What is really at issue is that they made a change in regulations on carrying personal weapons on base after the last shooting, and somehow he slipped through.

No one is allowed to carry a personal weapon on any Navy base I've ever known of. If the job description calls for a weapon , such as Shore Patrol, gate guards etc, they ( the weapons ) are issued each day and checked back in when the personnel goes off duty.
Some people have the mistaken idea that people on military bases are all carrying weapons.
Something I am not in favor of here, is that you are no longer required to have a base decal on your personal car. Although I've complained for years and years about the hassle of having to wait in line and fill out paperwork to renew your decal, I still am in favor of decals.

Depending on the job. Not everybody has a job where they are required to carry a weapon, fact is very few do. I understand about the decal, works great if you drive the same vehicle every day, can be a pain if you don't. At one time you were limited to just two decals/two vehicles, and if you had three then it had to be parked off base. By eliminating decals that eliminated that problem. At Ft. Hood you get on and off base with your ID, to register for access on or off the base you just had to show that you had insurance when you got your ID. Not sure about other bases since insurance IS required in Texas. When I was in if you were E-4 and below you had to show insurance when you got your decal, but E-5 and above did not have to.

I'm not exactly sure when they stopped requiring decals here. Mine was about to expire, so I pulled into the parking lot where the decal office is and noticed the lot was practically empty ! Great, I'm thinking, they've moved the location. I went on inside ( the building still had a couple of offices ) and asked what was going on. I was told that decals were no longer required. Everyone here and all the other bases where we've ever been stationed, had to show proof of insurance no matter your rate. License, registration, ID and proof of insurance was the drill. However, if you are not active military or retired, IOW. if you don't have a military ID, you still have to get a temp pass, usually good for 24 hours. Not sure what all that entails. Civilian vendors, repair people, and the like all have to enter through a special 'service' entrance. I guess they have a special system of entry for all that.
