Should I make a forum open to everybody, including guests? The last time the guest poster was more than a bit unruly.

Should I make a forum open to everybody, including guests? The last time the guest poster was more than a bit unruly. Just my opinion. I would make the announcement board or which ever board where the rules are explained, open to guests. That way they can decide if they want to participate on a forum and are willing to obey the rules as written. All other boards I would leave for members only. That's the terms on which I based my 'yes' vote.

The sales board they can read, and one of the individual boards they can read. I think the only forum they can't read in the general board is the vacation forum. The announcement board has been open to all readers since day one, but the others were closed to guests and gradually I have opened up more and more for them to read and maybe find interest. When I had a forum for guests, only one responded and he made it clear he would never join but started telling me that the board would fail, that I was a failure, and it was all on me. Also said that I was a dictator and a tyrant here. I think I have shown where everybody is welcomed here and it would be a nice place to hang your hat. Plus while it would be nice to have a lot of members, it isn't a requirement. What other boards do you think I could open up to maybe draw more members in?

I think you've done a nice job with the boards already in place. I don't think it's how many boards that are available, it all lies in participation in the existing boards. I can't think of any other boards off the top of my head. Participation is the key.

I vote no because if a person is interested they should register. Why should they participate even in a small way and remain anonymous?

Maybe it will work, maybe it won't. That is if you can get more people here to participate. I'm hardly here.

Votes were cast and the result is no open forum for guests to post in. Sorry for those who don't want to join and just read, evidently nobody wants a lurker here.

I'm just now getting a notice in my inbox about this. I'm hardly here since I'm busy and pop in when I remember and have the time.
