This is phase # 1. Phase # 2 is well underway and will add a lot more acreage, I can't recall how many hundred acres at the moment. It hasn't been open long enough for planted trees to mature. It will be beautiful when they do.

Yes, beautiful in a sad, eerie sort of way. Some are retired vets, but I'd venture to say that a large portion are war related deaths. All those markers, each representing a life lost, loved ones grieving. You can't imagine the impact it makes on you until you see a National Cemetery up close in person. Those markers mark graves. There is also a large area for cremains. The last time we were there, it was a gloomy, blustery day dense with rain clouds. You look at all those graves and wonder what story, what circumstance caused their deaths..Neither my husband or I said a word on the ride home. It's mind boggling.
