I have been interested in this since I saw an article in 2013. Here is the original article. It mentions Dr. Harold (Sonny) White.
i was talking with my gal about it. She said we should see if there was something newer, an update on it.
So I googled the name of the Dr. and FTL travel.
I found this video. At one point the interviewer asks about what has actually been done to demonstrate the feasibility of people traveling beyond our solar system.
The interviewer clarifies "nothing confidential here".
The Dr. talks about nano scale experiments and mentions custom casimir cavities. His presentation seems to involve top secret stuff to me. He experimented with a one mico-meter sphere surrounded by a 4 mico-meter tube, to see how the quantum vacuum would respond to it. The quantum vacuum created a toroidal ring of negative vacuum energy around the sphere. Well here is the video.
He talks about some exciting experiments beginning at about 23:00. Watch the first part of the video for the credentials of the Dr. and his broader ambitions for the next generation. At about 24:51 he gets into the meat of the experiment. www.bing.com/videos/search?q=harold+g.+white+nasa&docid=608037850289215885&mid=D4BAE0F77D6AAEF9460ED4BAE0F77D6AAEF9460E&view=detail&FORM=VIRE

Well, I admit I started around the 24 minute mark. I also admit, like the interviewer, that most of what he said was over his head. To be honest it was ALL over MY head, but I expected that.

The difficulty creating the negative energy (exotic phenomena) was the main difficulty in testing Alcubierre's theory. In the experiment with the one micro-meter sphere inside the 4 micro-meter tube, the quantum vacuum creates the negative energy and a good amount of it. This tube with a sphere surrounded by quantum space, could be the engine that creates the negative energy for the spaceship. With enough of these tubes surrounding the spaceship and with a way to channel the negative energy, produced inside the tubes, into a donut shaped ring wrapped around the spaceship, it may be possible to create and sustain a large enough warp bubble around the space ship. Then the method of using the negative energy to contract space in front of the ship and expand it behind the ship, would need to be discovered. Here's another article from 2013 on the subject.

I looked at it again and it occurred to me that he didn't say where the toroidal ring of negative vacuum energy was; relative to the tube and sphere. I assumed it was between the tube and the sphere, because when he talked about the custom casimir cavities with the two plates and the pillars that could be moved, the increase of high density negative vacuum energy was inferred to be between the plates and affected by the position of the pillars.
I had again assumed that the warp bubble would also be inside the tube but now I realize that is not necessarily so. It could be large enough to enclose the tube.
It that is so, then the spaceship could be the sphere. and the tube would go along for the ride. I wonder if moving the sphere in the tube from one end to the other might compress or expand space on opposing ends. I wonder if curving one end of the tube so that every point on that curved end was 1 micro-meter away from the surface of the 1 micro-meter sphere would change the shape of the warp bubble, or only partly closing one end, leaving a port hole might do something interesting.

Dr. Harold White didn't reveal how he positioned the tiny structures he experimented with, in the vacuum chamber. One way to do that would be with monopole magnets. Lining the inside of the vacuum chamber with monopole magnets and creating the tiny experimental structures from matching monopole magnets could position them in the exact center of the vacuum chamber. The one micrometer sphere could also be precisely positioned in the 4 micrometer diameter tube that way as well.
If a scaled up version of this experiment involved building a 500 meter diameter sphere in outer space and if it were positioned precisely with monopole magnets inside a 500 meter + 3 micrometer tube, a full scale warp bubble might be created. In outer space with a scaled up model, careful manipulation of the tube could help discover a method for shaping the warp bubble to achieve FTL travel.

Okay the original link to the podcast no longer works. I found an interview with Dr. Harold White that gives us a bit of the same info. He shows us a physical model (much larger) of what he used to create the warp bubble in this interview. thedebrief.org/warp-bubble-researcher-speaks-out/He says the sphere is a one micron diameter sphere and the tube that looks more like a ring around the sphere is 4 microns in diameter. At about 14 minutes into the interview he talks about the experiment that created the warp bubble. At about 16 minutes he holds up a model he created out of a roll of tape and a toy sphere. Now I get confused about what negative energy does. It was first observed when two metal plates were brought very close together in a vacuum chamber. It's called the Casimir effect. Sometimes I think it is an energy that pushes the plates apart and sometimes I think it's an energy that pulls the plates together. Wikipedia at one point says "generate a net force[13] – either an attraction or a repulsion depending on the specific arrangement of the two plates" Then at another point wikipedia says "Attraction between the plates can be easily understood". Of course it can't be easily understood, and the theories presented in the article in wikipedia, never touch on the term "negative energy". Dr. Harold White understands it as negative energy provided by space itself when the conductive plates are positioned close enough in a vacuum. Here's the youtube link for that new interview.
