Well I showed up early at Chariot Run as planned to hit range balls and work on some things. I brought my 3 wood just to try on my nemesis Hole #6. I went over the to putting green for awhile and they were fast as usual. I still had time to kill so I went back to the range. When I finished I was walking down a slightly sloped bank to the cart, when I rolled my ankle. After a few choice words I said to myself "Self, just walk it off and it will be fine". And it did actually seem to be okay. I played fairly well on the front nine and shot a 43. I even parred my least favorite hole even though my perfectly hit 3 wood landed in the fairway and rolled down the slope that parallels the fairway for it's entire length. It's a really unfair hole, but I retrieved my Titleist from the water, now laying two, and hit a pitching wedge to about five feet and made my par putt. Anyway, back to the ankle. I was okay the entire front nine and the first few holes on the back and then things went south. It started to stiffen up and ache. By the time we finished I could barely walk. The only thing that kept me going was the fact I was still outdriving my three buds, including one 279 yarder. I think I shot about the same score on the back but I'm not sure. My buddy dropped me off at the truck and I didn't even wait to see who won what. Then I had the longest and most painful one hour drive home from rural Indiana. There was no way to position my foot that didn't throb. Luckily it was my left ankle or someone else would have had to drive me home. I called my wife on the way home and asked her to get an ice pack ready for me. So, now I'm sitting in my favorite chair with my foot on a stool wrapped in an ice pack and hoping this ankle feels better before next Tuesday. That might be wishful thinking. It's been that kind of year so far.

That sucks Kirk. I prescribe a little bourbon đ„ on the rocks for the pain. It may not help but at least you wonât care. Keep it elevated with ice on it.

When I do things that might injure an ankle, I like to wear my boots. I have a pair of Danner boots that are very similar to the Army boots I grew to like. I don't know how your golf game would be effected by them though.

And I'm more of a cold beer guy so I applied ice to the outside and ice-cold Bud Light to the inside. Seems to be working.

I don't know how your golf game would be effected by them though. Yeah, I don't think army boots would be well suited to golf. The ironic part is I was actually not in the act of playing. I was simply walking down a slight grade back to my cart and just hit an uneven spot in some grass about six inches high. I wasn't chewing gum at the time so none of those "walking and chewing gum" comments are necessary.

At our age it takes longer to recover from injuries. My knee pain comes and goes. Right now Iâm not planning on going to the doctor but who knows what the future may bring. I have plans to play both days this weekend. Mowed the grass today and we finished planting towers and mulching. The boss says I am cooking tonight and she wants Mexican. Hello El Toro.

It's actually much better. It now looks worse than it feels. I think playing 18 holes on it probably wasn't the smartest thing to do, but in my defense it was only throbbing for about the last 6 or 7 and I had already paid my green fee. After the ice pack, elevation and Ibuprofen I can actually put my full weight on it. I'll be fine before next Tuesday's golf day. Getting ready to meet some friends at Mike Linnig's in a little while. Should be a perfect evening for hot fish and cold beer.

It's odd that my left ankle/foot looks more swollen today but it hurts less than it did the last couple of days. I actually went out and cut the grass earlier. I was very careful not to take any missteps on the sloped part of the yard. I got my driver out and made a few practice swings and it felt pretty good.

Glad that it is doing better. Sometimes moving around on it helps.

Glad that it is doing better. Sometimes moving around on it helps. By coincidence I ran into one of the guys from my foursome at Big O Tires this morning and of course he asked how it was doing. I had slip-on Sketchers with no socks so I said "See for yourself". He was surprised at how much bigger my left ankle looked compared to the right. But, it feels better everyday. I put an ice wrap on it a couple of times a day, but I haven't had any ibuprofen since yesterday.

Well you're about 70, what do you expect? Stuff like that come along with age.

Spraining an ankle has nothing to do with age. I had way more sprains in my younger days. This is the first time since probably my early forties. It was a simple accident that could happen to anyone of any age. As active as I am I'm surprised I haven't done it more often.

When a person gets older they get hurt easier and they don't heal like when they were younger.

When I was a child some of the family were sitting on the front porch after dinner. The porch wasn't that high maybe 24". There was a stake still in the ground by the porch, sticking out of the ground about 4 inches. I keep jumping off the porch and seeing if i could drive it into the ground. All that got me a sprained ankle. The next morning I couldn't get my shoe on. That was the only time I've had a sprained ankle. It's not that common in my opinion.

People who play competitive sports get sprained ankles. It comes with the territory. That's why many athletes tape their ankles before playing sports. I was very active through my teens and twenties and had multiple sprained ankles and jammed thumbs. As for healing, I am recovering as well as I did when I was younger. It's all about treating the injury. I will be playing golf again Tuesday morning, weather permitting. You obviously lived a very sedentary life-style. It could explain some of the ailments you claim to have. I stepped in a hole that wasn't visible because of tall grass. That has nothing to do with my age.
