Assault weapons by there very nature serve one purpose and that is to kill people. There are other types of firearms for hunting and home protection. Assault weapons serve no purpose. They should be banned.

I agree. They could be used by the military (of course) and some law enforcement. If we still have problems with mass murder, we might need to ban all modern firearms, and limit possession by the public, to single shot flintlock muskets, and flintlock pistols. Hunting would be possible, but would require more skill. Home defense would be more limited, but thieves would soon have to put up with stealing flintlocks, so the threat would be reduced too.
My opinion, honed by Mishka, is that modern firearms are too dangerous for the public to own. They are like other military weapons of war, that we are not allowed to own.

Lowell, this is easy to check on. I live in Kentucky. Here we can carry a gun openly or concealed. The police can do nothing about it, it's law here.
Their reasoning was.....crooks carry guns so why not let the law abiding citizen carry too if they want. This is not the only state that allows that. No doubt the laws in your state are different.

Washington has an open carry law. The police don't like it. One person here, won a lawsuit against the city because a city policeman who refused to allow him to open carry his revolver. I consider it brandishing of a firearm. To me it seems like the person is over-compensating for some self-perceived weakness. I believe that i am protected by my religious faith, from violent people. Few people of other faiths today, have confidence in their spiritual protection.

Here the open carry is different. We have no open carry law. From the Daniel Boone day until now no one had bothered to pass a law saying we can't openly carry a gun. On the concealed carry law...it is a law. We can carry a gun concealed.

We used to have a concealed weapon permit. I got one. I maintained it for years until they changed it to a concealed pistol license. I complained at the police department. They said it had something to do with the Brady bill (the attempted assassination of Reagan resulted in serious injury to James Brady and a bill was passed to attempt to limit gun ownership). I pointed out that I hadn't needed a pistol before, but now I would, and that seemed to run counter to the purpose of the Brady bill. It puts handguns in more peoples' hands.

It's sad but Our cities are more dangerous than ever before. Even the smaller towns are that way too with all the drugs and stuff going on.
