This should perhaps go somewhere around the computer sections (administration is free to move it), but since it's not so much any technicalities about such, it seemed reasonable to post it here.
Some years ago (maybe ten) someone figured out that there were 60 million "blogs" out there somewhere. There has to be many more by now. Half-billion? So, what are the things?
Well, a "log" is a record (a noting down) of important stuff that happened at a job or some such thing. They're often daily. After someone had the idea that a group could combine their notes online (thus creating a "web-log") without going to the office or some such bothersome activity, it seemed like a lot of people liked the idea. And, of course, in today's "speed-talk" the two syllables become one word: "Blog." Of course, soon enough any collection of information, just plain writing, pictures, etc., became a "blog."
Blogs exist all over the place. A business, a church, a club and a you name it has a website? Chances are there's a blog in there somewhere. Newspaper columns are now "blogs." Blogs turn up masked, like running accounts in facebook. They start out with something and they turn into actual social movements. Some are personal accounts for family members, and some are just personal accounts because someone wants to write down something. They can even be fiction stories.
I first started a blog (now gone) maybe ten years ago. Right now I have two active, and I don't see me writing an essay on something for one of them and then writing another on the same topic for this or any other message board. So, if I want to say something about something, y'all may get a link from me....
Just thought I'd mention that.
