I have windows 8.1 and it's so bad that Microsoft is going to give all the people with 8-8.1 free downloads of windows 10. I received an email this morning, they said I would get my copy in and couple days to a few weeks, This computer freezes up on about anything, I'm wondering if the download will help that.

I'm wondering if the white line that comes and goes across my screen will permanently vanish, and will I again have my 1,000 or so bookmarks scrambled.

I have 2 laptops, this one has 8.1 the other one has 7. I thought 7 also got a free download but I have received nothing from Microsoft about it. The one with 7 is stable, I have no trouble with it.
My thinking is...on the 8.1 if it's a add on, it will continue to do the same thing. If it's a totally fresh copy of 10, probably not.
We'll see.

Good luck, I am looking at upgrading my Quicken 2004 to a newer edition and that should solve any issues I have going to Windows 10. My books go back to Quicken 1.

How to update your windows 7 computer to windows 10 "Don't see the Windows 10 icon? First, try running Windows Update and install any available required and recommended updates for your existing Windows 7 or Windows 8 PC. Still don’t see the icon?" www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/windows-10-upgrade

No, not yet. That computer runs good but I forgot, there's 3 updates it's been trying to download now for a year and never has. I'm going to have to get that taken care of first. Last night I tried to get them downloaded and never could. I might have to get the recovery disc out, if I can find it....that's a lot of trouble but I don't think anything short of that will work.

There is a program I use that cleans up my computer. It has reliably fixed the registry when I choose that option too. It is a free program called ccleaner. Ccleaner has versions that cost money, but I have been quite satisfied with the free version. It even removes programs that are difficult to remove, in the tools window. I recommend running the first window, the cleaner window. Then run the registry cleaner. Then try doing the updates from Microsoft.
I find that some sites that I need to use, load up my computer with adware. They track my internet usage to see which ads to offer me. I don't find that useful so I clean all that stuff out about once a day.
I get so much adware that it noticeably slows my computer down after just one or two days. That stuff can also interfere with the operation of some programs. Registry errors also can interfere with the operation of other programs on your computer.

On Win 8.1 you should see an icon down where the battery, network, and sound icons. What you need to do on your Win 7 is to download that program, reserve the 10, and wait. You will also get the free upgrade on both laptops.

Both of my laptops are ready to upgrade but I'm not ready yet. I am waiting for my tablet to get the download and I am going to upgrade that one first.

I have it loaded on one of my laptops and on the tablet. I seems to boot faster but I have some issues with it. I use an external mouse and hate that dang touch pad, but on 10 there is no way to disable the touch pad through software. Also I use a slideshow for my background and have it set to change every minute on win 8.1, there is no setting to set the time on 10.
I am waiting before upgrading this one since it is my main laptop and I need to back up all my stuff, the others did not have important information on them.
