Jesus said the 12 apostles were to set on 12 thrones and judge the twelve tribes of Israel. After Judas' death the twelve chose and man named Matthias to be in the number and take Judas' place.
To me it seems they were hasty and got out in front of God on this one. God had someone in mind to take Judas' place.... one of the greatest men in the Bible Saul of tarsus, better known as Saint Paul. Paul wrote most of the new testament and was not a step behind any of the apostles.
Matthias you never hear about him again which begs the question....did the apostles make a mistake?

And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel. The highlighted is a condition of the which Judas Iscariot did not meet. As to Paul? An isolated Apostle as one born out of due time. 1 Corinthians 15:3-9. Interesting question concerning the Twelve sitting on twelve thrones in judgment of the tribes. What is the usefulness of doing so? Its purpose? When "all" judgment was given to one, John 5:22.

Again, interesting reply. I can buy that, he did say (Paul) he was like one born out of due season. Good answer. I hadn't thought of that angle.
