One was at the Corvette museum in Kentucky. Bowling Green. Several of the corvettes were damaged. Fortunately no one was injured. Then later they discovered another one not too far from that one. That is scary stuff. Thinking about standing there then all of a sudden, down you go. Whole houses, cars, streets. Unbelievable. And they said that they cannot predict where they will occur.

As a child I grew up in Hart County Kentucky and there are lots of sink holes and many caves as well. It sounds scary and it is to some but that's a wonderful place for a kid to grow up.

Sink holes are popping up all over the world. Huge ones. I think it is terrifying. I read that some were caused from old mining shafts caving in, ground water being used faster than it can fill back up, limestone breakdown, various reasons. It would not be so bad if they could predict them, but they can't.

Sink holes probably can be detected if the property owner wants to spend mega bucks for a complete geological work up, with sonar and other methods. Most sink holes in Florida are due to the water table. The majority of land in the state of Florida was under water at some point long, long ago. We have many many underground springs that feed the aquifers here , resulting in unstable surfaces.

Keep your cell phone on you. Maybe some nylon rope within grabbing distance. Thinking about doing that myself.
