I had one when I was just a child, I still remember it to this day. It was not your textbook nde. I was in bed and very ill, I had a high fever, my mom was tending to me. I remember sitting up in bed and then getting up...walking through a wall and I wandered around outside for a bit. I looked through the living room window and could see my brother and stepdad watching tv. I walked around for a while outside and I looked and saw our house....I felt so tired. I walked back to the house and through the wall. I saw my body laying on the bed and my mom was was wiping my face with a wash clothe. I layed back down in my body and later woke up. Years later my mom told me when that happened she thought she had lost me.
I didn't see a tunnel and the light at the end.

I believe that a lot of people have had one or maybe two but are afraid to say anything because people won't believe them or think they are crazy.
I also believe what people see when having an NDE is what they are taught and their religious beliefs. You see relatives because you are taught that you will be with your family when you die. Angels are considered heavenly although there are devilish angels too.

I had an out of the body experience, it was not a near death experience though. In it I experienced absolute joy and tranquility. There were silver cords that connected my consciousness which was somewhere near the ceiling, possibly where the light bulb was, with the bodies of myself and the other people in the room. The cords were beautiful and undulating, they seemed to be made of a semi-liquid jelly and where they reached a body of a person they enveloped the person in what could be compared to a mostly transparent grape. My body was still talking and they were talking with me and with each other. I understood the thoughts of everyone and then I heard more harmonious melodies than I could count, that were constantly changing and never the same and it was quite wonderful and beautiful. My only thought up until then had been Wow! I realized that this reality which I had never known before had always existed and would always exist. Then I heard one thought that seemed to be everywhere and it was constantly changing and seemed to never repeat. I had managed to stop thinking before any of this occurred, by realizing that my own thought was out of balance and created conflict. This one thought didn't make sense to me. I thought "This doesn't make any sense. My own thought makes more sense than this!" At this point I became aware of other voices where my consciousness was. They were saying, "What is he doing here? He doesn't belong here! Get him out of here!" Then I noticed the cord that connected to my body was snapping as if it was in a high wind, as if it was about to break. I felt intense fear and sadness, sensing that the body below me would die if the cord broke. I became conscious again later in a different part of town. How I got there, I never learned. It was later that I had all the terrible things happen to me like the glaucoma and the bleeding kidneys. I even had a soldier accidentally step on my hand and damage the joint of a finger. Years later I was able to start playing piano again. I now realize that my innermost self had awakened and was leading me through punishment and reward to my discovery of true Buddhism.
