My personal experience with Christ has been joy. I have Christ, there is nothing that is on earth that can add to that. No matter what happens or comes to me, He will help me through it. It has given me a great deal of freedom, not as the world is but as Christ would have it. This story expresses it perfectly.
Long story short, we had no income. Disability for Norm and Social Security for me wouldn’t be available for months. Then my brother Charles stepped in. He sat with me at the kitchen table and said “how much money do you need a month?” I was looking at a house payment, electricity, propane (for heat and cooking) and food, at the bare minimum. It took a while to figure out just what we needed. When that was figured out, he promised me that he would give me that amount every month until we were able to handle it by ourselves. It ended up that he paid me, monthly, for 9 months! When I told Charles that I would pay him back “some day” he said “Pay me in pickles!”
I recently had this happen to me. A family member lost her job, she was delinquent on her utilities, she was losing her truck, her home. Her children deserted her, what is the old saying? The rats are the first one to abandon a sinking ship. I prayed about it. It was the right thing to do. I sent her the pickles article, told her to call me, and come over to discuss what we could do. At first she didn't want to, she is very independent. She said she didn't care anymore what happened. It took a few days to convince her that God was going to use me to get her through this. Her despair changed to hope. Her depression changed to optimism. She is confident now that everything will be okay. It has been difficult for both of us, I am not rich, but the rewards of seeing her living with joy again has been worth it.
I don't know where this is going or where God is sending us, but I do know He is. He is always working in the back ground for us, we don't always realize it, but He is.
On the other hand, Oh Please Lord help her find a job soon!

Excellent news, she has been called back for a 2nd interview! Good job, good benefits, nice company. Looks very promising. She stopped by today and had tea with me, we have always been close. Looks a little tired right now, but I think she will chirp up once she gets another job. God is so good!

I try to stay on a even keel, no peaks and no valleys. I have found it works better that way.

She called me tonight because she didn't want to wait until morning. So excited, joyful. Thank you so much for your prayers. I told her that you were praying for her too, she asked me to thank you. She is going to be okay now. God is so good.

My walk with the Lord has not always been easy or joyful. But I'm where I belong, I have given up much others have enjoyed that I might be here. No regrets Many people get discouraged, they look at the Christian walk as a trip through glory...all roses. Well it can be but often not. It's rather a journey. Example: Years ago I wanted to buy a house. I didn't have the money money to put down on it. I ask a family member if I could borrow the money, and they loaned it to me. I promised to pay them back in payments but I never did. I just didn't have the money to pay them back. Years later I came into a large amount of money and the first thing I did was take that person their money. They told me No, it's ok I don't need it, that was a long time ago. It would have been easy to say thanks but I wouldn't take no for a answer and they finally took the money. I won't go into detail but you wouldn't believe how God blessed me after that.

There is a great deal of joy in and of our Lord, of that I have no doubt. As we take up our cross and follow Him, that part of our journey "seems" grievous. Yet, in Hebrews 12:2 we read of Jesus and His Joy. What love is, that, He first loved us. Jesus as the Word made flesh is the operation and we are the co-operation, a spiritual principle that must not be overlooked in our lives.
I looked at other Christians when I first became one and expected to get material things. Rather short sighted on my part at the beginning of my Christian walk. I did not understand the things of God were spiritually discerned as I do now. That His Kingdom was not meat and drink but righteousness, peace and "JOY" in the Holy Ghost. And, that we were to seek that first. We have enough material things to get by in this realm and will leave little behind materially for others. We have instead become spiritually minded and this is life and it is more abundant than the material things of this world. I understand now completely that we are to be in the world yet, not of the world. The lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes and the pride of life can be rooted out. A new Heavens and a new Earth can and does take place within, spiritually speaking.
So, for the joy that is set before me, I will endure my cross, despising what shame there is and will sit in the Heavenly places in Christ Jesus.
