I once had to take a lexiscan so before I went in I googled everything I could about it By doing that I scared myself out of my wits. I went ahead and had it done, all was not right so I had to take a heart cath. This time I didn't look it up I just went and had it done and all turned out well.
About 10 days ago I was out walking and a pain hit me in my right calf. I limped all the way home. No matter what I did the pain did not want to go away. So Yesterday I googled it and.....I had every symptom of a blood clot.
I went to the E.R. and they had to call someone in to administer the ultrasound test. After spending half the night in the E.R.. I was told I had no blood clot, and I was unceremoniously send home.....still limping.
I knew better than to google any health related issues. I'll never do it again.

My Rheumatologist threatened to find a way to have my computer disabled. Glad everything turned out well, did they find anything causing the pain ? !

I got the bill for this yesterday, almost 2,400 for a 1 1/2 hours in the E.R. and a ultra-sound on my leg.
That will definitely discourage me from going to the E.R. again. My insurance payed all but 58.00.
Something is wrong with our health care system when they can charge like that.

I have been learning about herbal treatments and have stopped going to the doctor. About the leg cramp, when I walk I sometimes use potassium for cramps in my thighs and legs, it works well, better if one takes it before a walk.

But if you have stopped going to the doctor you are making a major mistake. Many underlying health issues go undetected if you are playing doctor yourself. That's why routine blood work and check ups are vital, if not lifesaving. I hope you still keep up with your mammograms,Gyno checks and colonoscopy as well as other cancer screenings. As we age, we are all more susceptible to blood pressure problems , heart, diabetes and osteoporosis. These areas need to be checked by a professional on a regular basis.

Interesting and just another two cents worth. I too have stopped my doctor visits, cost prohibitive and the tests performed did not come to any conclusions. I too am using specific supplements and herbal supplements for over 25 years. Some potential inherited heath issues have so far not occurred. My co-workers thought that I am twenty years younger looking than I am and I still outwork most of them. All of this I attribute to God, eating healthy and staying active. $4000.00 to have my doctors tell me that there is nothing wrong with my heart, blood pressure, cholesterol, blood sugar levels. Dropped some weight and the issue went away. But, they got my money. Professionals?

I have Glaucoma, Sjogrens, Rheumatoid arthritis and Hashimoto's Thyroisitis. yeah.. I got the full meal deal. So I've had to have blood work every six weeks since 1986.. If I don't go in for blood work I don't get my meds refilled. So I'm at their mercy.
I'm still a firm believer in routine screenings. I lost one of my best friends to cervical cancer simply because she didn't have routine screenings. Cervical cancer responds well to treatment if caught in time. The same with another friend who never had a colonoscopy

I also take another medicine that causes me to have to take a blood test once a month....no fun. I really wonder how good of hands I'm in medically. I go to the family doctor and also a specialist. I went to the specialist 2 weeks ago. After the nurse did her thing the doctor walks in and says I think I'm going to take you off...some big name I've never heard of and put you on couadin. I said I'm already on coumadin and have been for 18 months. He gets on the computer and looks it up and says yeah you are....you still taking 2 baby asprins a day? I say yes and he says well cut back to one a day...end of visit. 2 weeks after that his office calls and tells me doctor says stop taking...something I've never heard of. I said I'm not taking that and never have. She said well doctor is just being cautious. Don't those people keeps files and records on their patients? It makes me wonder.

Get yourself another Dr. All my doctors ( and I have a specialist for each thing mentioned ) are on top of things..the blood work has become second nature, I'm just glad my veins have held up. I actually do't mind. I'd rather have blood work every six weeks than have liver or kidney failure that some of my meds have the potential to cause. The blood work will detect any adverse effects. Sometimes Drs speak in pharmaceutical or generic terms rather than the brand name of the med. I'm lucky.most of my Drs are at the Mayo Clinic...top of the line, I've never had a problem
