I have one computer that still has windows XP OS and it is no longer supported. I read recently that Microsoft might allow people that still use XP to download the new windows 9 for free. I hope so.

There has been talk of a free upgrade but so far it is for those who have Windows 8/8.1. There is the idea that Microsoft might allow a free upgrade but most of that applies to companies who are still using XP. I had XP on several computers and while support for XP has stopped you can still get software upgrades if you use anti-virus software and there are a ton of programs that also run great on XP. Programs like MS office and the newest Adobe might not but there are office clones that work as well and some better than MS office, same with Adobe, some great clones that work as well. I use Libre Office on my XP machines and that program will read and write MS office files. I'm looking forward to Windows 9, but I have my Windows 8.1 looking exactly like Win7.

You should get the new Windows 10 free, but in the meantime download StartMenu8, it gives you the old start menu back and the ability to start to the desktop instead of Metro. While 8/8.1 isn't great it does have some features that are nice.

I don't know why they had to make it so complicated.
