There is a special kind of person in our world who finds himself alone and isolated, almost since birth. His solitary existence isn’t from a preference or an antisocial temperament – he is simply old. Old in heart, old in mind and old in soul, this person is an old soul who finds his outlook on life vastly different and more matured than those around him. As a result, the old soul lives his life internally, walking his own solitary path while the rest around him flock to follow another. Perhaps you’ve experienced this in your own life, or have witnessed it in another person?

The body would be normal in years while inside dewells an old soul, that has lived many times.

Okay. I got it now, a reincarnate being. Do you think everyone is reincarnate -- that is, no new beings are created -- or is it just some people?

I enjoyed reading your post. I have done and experienced quite a bit of information on this. When they took out the works in Bible about Reincarnation people did not understand that we come back here to learn different lessons and that we can chose to challenge ourselves within our own inner being to come here and learn to improve our spiritual situation. Lots of us have been here many times and if we were to tap into our inner spirit through hypnosis we can remember these past lives or past experiences.
Their are many authors on this subject and it is fascinating information that can improve our spiritual journey while we are here. I have had dreams where I have been shown two past lives I have experienced, and I am sure there are many, many more. I had asked in prayer to be shown past lives that would help me improve myself and help me heal. It took a while and patience on my part but they came to me in a dream form. I was able to improve myself and my thinking with this information and I was able to heal a couple of past hurts that I carried into this lifetime. I was able heal and seek forgiveness to a Father I had in a past life that was still very upset with me. These experiences helped me heal others and heal myself, sometime in life we create situations that are not helpful to us and others and I believe in forgiveness for myself and for others and the way to heal these things is to face them and make amends in whatever that is, in this life or the next lifetime or in the after life. Thank You for the post I enjoyed reading and thinking about this subject. Michael Newton, PH.D. has a few books on this subject. He is a very interesting author.

I completely understand the 'old soul' No matter what century you are born into, you somehow feel a connection to times in the past.. I think my 'connection' is a strictly translucent vision though. I see it as a pseudo romanticized view. Completely disconnected from the hardships and reality of the particular era.
Perhaps that's not the real definition of an old soul, only what I've gained from reading so many period pieces of literature. Eugenia Price is to blame !

No such thing as an old soul. Not in the meaning of what you are saying anyways. All souls were created at the same time, but not all souls come to earth.

My definition was a phrase, a phrase having to do with an affinity or an identity with times gone by. Mine is not the philosophical definition. There is much to be considered in an in depth , real meaning of the term.
If you want to challenge a more philosophical meaning, maybe someone else can enlighten you, besides, how do you know when all souls are created ?
Your's isn't the only opinion here. Maybe you should preface your posts with, "In my opinion"

It's my opinion that you do not know, and if you do, then I'd like to know how you know... 'just because'
isn't an acceptable answer.

And your opinion is fine. I wouldn't expect you to believe me.

IMO, the soul is an abstraction, generated by our life feelings and experiences, our life story, so until you develop a life history, you have no soul. Like a character in a movie or play. So all 'souls' start out the same age, zero.
Nonetheless, I think sydney has a valid point, even without term 'soul' meaning anything or the same thing to many of us. Some people do always have a very different outlook on life, even when young. An attitude, More somber than most.

That I would agree with as everyone is different. But again, that leads us to that there are paths for everyone and each is unique to themselves when you consider the person in their entirety.
All religions are little more than groups of people with shared prejudices, fears, and beliefs. But none is any more right than another. Each person follows the path that they need to follow including me, you, and everyone else. If they need to believe in a personal god, then that is what they will need and what they will see in their minds. Doesn't make it any better or worse than any other religion.
The issue with each person is how they act and treat others. Do they treat people with love or conditional love. 99.999% of religions people really only give conditional love. Very few have a true unconditional love that Jesus and other prophets taught.
