I may have mentioned that I have Sjogren's which has taken a toll on my eyes. After exhausting the entire inventory of conventional drugs to no avail my Opthomologist wrote me a prescription for autologous serum drops. It works like this: I went to a lab where they drew six vials of blood. They put it into a centrifuge and separated the serum. Then they put the serum into individual vials and flash froze it. You thaw out one vial every 24 hours and use 8 drops per day.. the rest are to be kept frozen.
I don't know how long it will take to see any effects. It is VERY expensive and no insurance will cover it I'm hoping it works

Dr. Weil's recommendations are the same as those he suggests for other autoimmune disorders: •Follow a low-protein, high carbohydrate diet. Minimize consumption of animal products and eliminate milk and milk products •Avoid polyunsaturated oils (vegetable oils) and hydrogenated fats (margarine, vegetable shortening). •Get regular aerobic exercise (swimming is best if you have joint problems). •Practice progressive relaxation and other mind-body techniques; visualization, hypnosis, and guided imagery can be very effective for moderating autoimmune responses like Sjögren's Syndrome. •Experience traditional Chinese medicine (diet, herbs, acupuncture, and energy work). •To reduce inflammation, increase your intake of omega-3 fatty acids by eating more Alaskan salmon, herring, sardines, walnuts, purslane and other leafy greens as well as freshly ground flaxseeds. •Include ginger and turmeric in meals for their natural anti-inflammatory effects.
Dr. Weil also advises patients with autoimmune diseases to avoid health care professions who make them feel pessimistic about their condition.

Also read that green tea is very helpful. Sorry you are going through that. Praying for your recovery.

Thanks for the info, but Dr Weil is preaching to the choir. I was diagnosed with RA in 1987 My Rheumatologists are in the RA group at Mayo. They suggest all of the above, but sometimes things are just things. My Drs do not in any way make you feel 'pessimistic' about your condition. I've been in study groups for every biologic that comes on the market. I've given up on biologics as I feel there is more potential for harm than good. Lymphoma being a potential side affect. My RA is well controlled ( for the present) it's the Sjogrens that's run amouk.. maybe with this new treatment that too will improve.

Autoimmune diseases are something that you just learn to live with, as there is no 'cure' per se. But with good Drs it can be controlled.

Hope it works for you. Got to be hard to deal with, sorry, may God give you the strength you need to get through it. The RA, I can deal with, it's become second nature to me. At the present, it's in remission. I hardly even remember I have it unless I have a bad flare and can't walk for several days. But so far, since 1987 I've managed to bounce back.. but my eyes are a different matter..My eyes have been much worse to deal with than the RA. I'm hoping this too shall pass, or at least get better. Thank you again for your support.
