Well I watched Shatner and his fellow passengers take their sub-orbital space trip this morning. He seemed genuinely moved by the experience. He had some interesting and unusual comments immediately after exiting the capsule. I'm sure he'll have much more to say. He admitted being somewhat apprehensive, especially when things were delayed a couple of times.

I am very pleased that Shatner had that opportunity. It must be an awesome experience. The report said that all the occupants of the craft were in tears afterwards. Shatner said that when the blue cover that is the atmosphere suddenly fell away and the blackness of space surrounded them, was a most impressive part of the trip. I wonder if he could see the stars from that altitude?

I've not heard any quotes from the passengers (not astronauts) regarding star sightings. From the video I saw, the "blackness" was above them, much like the blue daylight sky is above us from our perspective here on the ground. I envision it as being daytime looking down and nighttime looking up. You could actually see what he was talking about in some of the video recorded inside the capsule.
