Phil Mickelson became the oldest golfer to win one of golf's four Major Championships, when at age 50, he beat a field of young guns to win his second PGA Championships on one of the most difficult courses they have ever played on. Actually 50 seems pretty darned young to this old hacker. But congratulations to Phil. I hope he backs it up with a US Open to finish the Grand Slam of Golf.

I was rooting for him. I have always liked his play. I would have been okay with Koepka as well.

I respect Koepka's ability but he's become kind of snotty recently, kind of like Patrick Reed, unlike Mickelson who is a classy guy. A retired police officer friend of mine had the opportunity to escort Phil when he was here for the 2014 PGA at Valhalla. He said he was one of the nicest people he's ever met. Very polite and generous. He also had a chance to spend time with Tiger Woods. His exact words about Tiger were "He's a dick". Tiger has made an attempt to change his image, although I doubt his sincerity.

The younger golfers once they win a major get a little uppity. Justin Thomas is that way. Rickie Fowler early on in his career thought he was God until the Masters officials smacked him down. He went in for an after round media session with his hat on backwards. He was told to turn it around, he refused and said that is how he wears his hat at media sessions. He was told again to turn his hat around or he knew where the exit was. They told him that this is Augusta and it’s our way or the highway. He turned his hat around.

As much as I love watching the Masters, enjoyed going to Augusta National and appreciate how organized they are, they can be a snooty bunch. The people they have working the Masters are awesome, but I think they go a little overboard with patting themselves on the back. That said, Fowler and no other golfer has any business representing the tour in anything but a respectful way. He's learned to be better, mainly because of a sit-down with Arnold Palmer. He gives a lot of his time to causes outside the ropes. I've heard Jack Nicklaus's wife compliment him more than once about showing up when they need him for a fundraiser. Outside of Justin Thomas's dumbass and derogatory comment that was caught on air, I haven't had a problem with him. He seems to appreciate how fortunate he's been. Koepka just seems to be getting a little cocky recently for some reason. Getting schooled by Phil yesterday might do him some good.

Yes, the Masters is a snooty tournament. However, it is run solely by them, without a lot of advertising or the announcers shilling to tv shows on their networks. This is because Augusta respects the game of old. Yes, I agree Fowler has gotten way better. Between being lectured by Augusta officials and Arnie basically telling him to grow up, he has had 180 turnaround. Also, he no longer looks like a garbage tipper on Sunday.
As to Tiger Woods, the one time that I was fortunate enough enough to play Valhalla I heard the same thing from the locker room attendant. He really liked Phil and Rory. However, he said that Bubba Watson was a very close second to Woods as the biggest dick on the tour.

Bubba was unpopular at the PGA at Valhalla because they do a long drive competition on #10 on one of the practice days and he didn't want to take part so he hit 3 iron instead of driver. He too has since gotten better. I like how he usually skips the tournament before the Masters so he can be at Augusta for the Drive, Pitch and Putt contest. He does get out there to mingle with the kids in his green jacket. They seem to appreciate it.
