I have a new Dell laptop and a new HP laptop. Both have the same parts in them i-5 10th and 11th gen, 256. Both are fast. They work equally well. The HP was $200.00 cheaper. It's hard for me to justify paying $300.00 for the name on the front of computer.

One might have a better hard drive or a better solid state drive. One might have a better graphics chip or even have a highly rated graphics card. Some CPUs are better. Some motherboards offer more upgrade capacity. My gal likes the Apple products, but Apple I-cloud lost almost all her uploaded videos and music. Windows 10 aggravates me more than XP ever did. Windows 10 changes things without permission, like sound settings. It gives me a message continually telling me that my settings have changed and it needs me to log in with my password and fix things. But when I log in it tells me it can't find anything wrong. So I ignore it now.

Someone voted for Acer, probably Lowell. I had an Acer once. It was a cheap computer but a very good computer. They are as high now as the rest.

Then why did you buy it? At the time I wanted a small computer. I'm limited it space where I have it. I bought a 14.0 Dell. The price had been reduced so I bought it. It has all the goodies. Even at that it cost me $630.00 but I got what I wanted. The computer I had before that was a HP 17.5 screen. I got to closing it before I went to bed to keep dust out of it. When I would close it the hinge on the left side would pop. Eventually it broke off. Hp had put hinges on it that were too small for such a big screen. No points for HP. I like Dell but they are a bit costly, nothing like an Apple though. I also like Acer. I had my eye on a Acer that had a lighted key pad but chose the Dell instead.

If you mean why did I buy the Toshiba, it was for a young person who tend to be hard on things, so they didn't need anything expensive. The point is it's still working, but it's never been very fast. It served a purpose at the time. If you had that kind of trouble with the HP, your original post makes no sense. You imply it's the same as the Dell. It doesn't sound like it from what you just described. I bought a Dell yesterday because it was a good price and I believe it will serve me for many years without hinges or internal parts breaking. It makes sense, look at it this way. I don't know what kind of vehicle you like, odds are you've got a bad one. It's that way with anything. For the money HP are as good a deal as any. Good luck with your new Dell.

My Acer is a desktop. It cost about $250. I am still using it. It isn't upgradeable but it was easily opened to change the hard drive to a solid state drive. I bought a Samsung EVO series one terabyte solid state drive for a little more than a hundred dollars. Samsung provided the software to mirror Windows 10 and all the data. I bought another solid state drive just like the other one recently to make a backup. Solid State Drives are the fastest but they wear out more quickly. It has been like doing an upgrade for my Acer.
I may install another fan in the case. It has been cold but summer is coming. Heat will kill a computer. I am considering getting another desktop. A gaming computer would be nice.

I've made a bunch of desk tops. You should make your own, it's easy.

I've made my own before. I also have a basement full of old computers I will probably never use again. One was still running Dos and one is a Commodore 64. Knowing which motherboard to buy is a tough choice. Some tech gurus with help sites on the web can give advice. Then the power supply should be a bit more powerful than needed. The choice on a motherboard will partly determine the graphics card or GPU choice. Cases can be minimal or elaborate if a person wants an elaborate one. Motherboards used to feature a lot of expansion slots but most of the things that used to use an expansion slot are integrated into the motherboard or done with blue-tooth now. If you want to control music devices there are still plug in cards that offer tantalizing choices. USB 3.0 and higher and maybe soon 4.0 can perform as well as a plug in card.
Some gamers are still using graphics cards. Gamers with big bucks spend big bucks on the best graphics cards so they can more easily kill other player characters in player versus player games. I suspect it may not be a healthy career. One player actually killed another player after losing at a money making competition not long ago.

At one time I worked for a university here in the I.T. dept. I could and probably put together a computer in 20 min. Not including putting in windows which take a little time.
I have taken computer cases that looked new and put new works in it. I have never made a laptop....yet.

I did them all while you were drunk on your ass trying to start trouble. This is only the second forum I know of in 15 years you've registered on. No one likes you, Kirk is desperate for friends as well.
Do you enjoy reading my forum now? You are a piece of trash, you know it and so does everyone else. You posting on a dead board that you hijacked, because the owner is sick or dead. Your leader made a forum but is too scared to open it. I looked at it and I saw 3 mistakes that will never fly. Mr. 5 gallons, See I remember you too. 5 gallons of booze.

If you do, you are dumber than I thought you were. I hijacked no forum, it was here to join. You are just pissed that you couldn’t shut it down. As to the rest of your temper tantrum, 🖕

How many different sock puppet screen names do have? You might want to just go by Sybil with all your multiple personalities and lies that you have lived.
