No we are not all humanist. I believe God will fix what is broken, humanists believe people will. Now that is a joke. Where do I get that idea, you have quoted several times things I have heard atheists quote. Well that is interesting, Christ said they were liars. So is Christ a liar? Religion has not caused any pain to anyone. People have. And yes God does prefer one over the other. He prefers Christians. Which Atheist quotes ? Do you mind if I ask what particular religion you are ? I believe that people have caused pain in the name of religion. The Westboro Baptist people for instance. I'm sure they think they are doing God's will. My minister says I have more question than Carter has pills, and he always takes the time to answer mine as he sees it. Sometimes he will just chuckle and say " Well, you've got me there " Take the Amish for instance.. their's is a strict by their book, no nonsense religion. They have very little tolerance for outsiders and other religions.. and.. they think they are right..Maybe they a re. maybe not.But I will say this in their defense.. I think they are probably the most forgiving of all the other religions. Any group of people who go to the home of the widow of a person who cold bloodedly killed a group of their innocent little children and offered her their condolence and prayers is a rare breed.

I know the question was not directed to me but I'm A Christian. I belong to a Non Denominational Church, I'm a member and also on the Board of Directors. Hi sydney. I've always been associated with a certain denomination. First, for most of my growing up and teen years, I was Southern Baptist.. I have been United Methodist for quite a number of years now..with a spattering of Presbyterian in between. As I said previously, a lot of people become confused over dogma.. since you are non denominational, I guess you don't have that problem.. Or maybe you do but in lesser degrees. How do you handle a situation when a person questions you about dogma, or is it simply not that important in your Church ? Do you find that people can be happier without all the weight of dogma hanging over their heads, or is it hard for some to let go of the dogma from their previous upbringing ( if that applies )? I find dogma less important than core belief, but still dogma can bring with it, a certain amount of guilt and indecision.. Your input ? And thanks for being forthcoming. I think I will turn in , I have a pounding headache.. I'll catch up with you later

( dayrain: "And yes God does prefer one over the other. He prefers Christians.)
How do you interpret this :?
God is No Respecter of Persons
by Caleb Colley, M.L.A.
When the first Gentile was converted to Christianity, the apostle Peter perceived that “God shows no partiality. But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him” (Acts 10:34-35). Before the church was established and Gentiles began to be converted to Christ, many Jews supposed that God favored them over all other ethnic groups; some had the false notion that merely being Jewish was a sure sign that one was saved (Matthew 3:9; Luke 3:8; 7:30).
When the religious barrier between Jews and Gentiles was broken down, Peter more fully understood one important aspect of God’s character: He does not favor—and never has favored—one person or group of people over others. Whether or not the Israelites always understood it, anyone who obeys God’s commands can be justified in His sight. Consider a sampling of the passages that emphasize God’s fairness toward all humans:
Romans 2:10
But glory, honour, and peace
Which are so many words for the everlasting happiness of the saints; which is a "crown of glory that fadeth not away" (( 1 Peter 5:4 ) ); an honour exceeding that of the greatest potentates upon earth, since such that enjoy it will be kings and priests, and sit with Christ on his throne to all eternity; and is a peace that passes all understanding: all which will be rendered
to every man that doth good, to the Jew first, and also to the
Gentile;
which none without Christ, and his grace, and by the strength of nature, does, or can do; not that good works are causes of salvation, but are testimonies of faith, and fruits of grace, with which salvation is connected, whether they be found in Jews or Gentiles; for neither grace nor salvation are peculiar to any nation, or set of people.

This is really not something I get into. I refuse to argue with people or to speculate with people about salvation. I told you for me it is simple. Christ born. Christ crucified. And Christ risen. All I got to say.

Christ was God's sacrifice and able to forgive to the uttermost. Sins can be forgiven not just covered like they were in the old testament. We don't have to hold ourselves in condemnation anymore it's like we have never sinned. What it comes down to is do you have a understanding heart, if not it will all seem silly and we as Christians as foolish.

Yes, I do believe you are correct, we, as Christians, do need to have an understanding heart, and we need to love the sinner, not the sin, but we also need to leave the judgement to God, lest we also be judged. Maybe rdlb will weigh in on dogma.

We all walk in the light God gives us, even if the light is dim if we continue to seek, the light will come.

Since you asked about dogma I will give an answer concerning that. Well what I think of it anyway. Each church has its own dogma that they stand by. It is man made, it is consistent with that particular church. Do you need it? No. Some believe that one must be submerged to be baptized, some believe you can just sprinkle. That is a good example of dogma. Does it really matter. No. What matters is what is in the heart of the person being baptized. You could have a good friend baptize you in the forest in a creek it would be just as binding. The people are the church. The church is just a building. The dogma has been established over the years to protect a certain branch of a religion, all of which stem from Christianity but each picks its own special little things it thinks are more important, or that they believe they have interpreted right. Does it matter? No. You could never go to a church and still be a Christian. Ours is a personal relation ship with God. One on one. It is nice to have fellowship, sure, but do you have to? No. The only dogma I go by is the Word of the Lord, the Bible. If God says it is wrong, I don't do it. If God says it is so I believe it. The world believes one thing one day and another the next. No so with the Word of God. It is the same today, tomorrow and forever. Dogma changes in churches to suit the world. To make the church more acceptable to the world. Often. Abe Lincoln attended church all his life. He never joined one though. He said more or less if he wanted to go to hell he would join the church. The churches have become corrupted. They have adopted many ways of the world. They have lowered the limbo bar to get more members, to be accepted by the secular world, to "fit" in. I don't imagine this has helped any, but I tried. God bless you.

I'm putting this here because I don't see a 'religion' board. Just wondering. What do you think the major difference is between a 'Spiritual' person and a 'religious' person? Other than the obvious, a belief in 'God' 'Jesus' 'Mohammad' etc ? People can be spiritual and not be religious, just as a person can be religious and not spiritual. Voodoo is spiritual and say it isn't a religion. The ancients were spiritual, but they believed in many gods.

Pure and undefiled religion before God and the Father is this: to visit orphans and widows in their trouble, and to keep oneself unspotted from the world.
