To all the Christians celebrating the coming of Jesus or those who simply observe the secular holiday and look forward to a visit from Santa, Merry Christmas.
To Lowell and any other Buddhists here I wish you a belated Bodhi Day. I hope I got that right.

I find Christmas inescapable. My family has managed to compel me to participate. Even my gal that plays the flute is upset when I send money instead of gifts to my family. For me it is like another Sunday in an endless string of days off. I have been trained to be the flute player's assistant and that function plus the job of caretaker of my two cats and maintenance of the house take up time. It really is a semi-retirement. That's okay, it's probably healthy to have some chores.
I hope you all don't work too hard trying to make Christmas perfect. I remember it being stressful for my mother, and my wife.

Christmas is never perfect, but it always somehow works out. This year is going to be different than usual for obvious reasons. We usually have all my family over on Christmas morning for a big brunch prepared by me. It's a tradition I took over from my mom when she was confined to a nursing home. I fix eggs, bacon, sausage, biscuits and gravy, hash-brown casserole, muffins and people bring desserts. It's usually 20+ folks. This year I'm fixing the same thing for five. In the evening we usually go to my brother-in-laws place, but everyone agreed it was not advisable, so that's cancelled. God willing, we'll be back to normal next year.
