please forgive me, I originally bought a new HP laptop last October when I originally decided to set up this board. The problem is that it was the worse purchase I have ever made. That laptop has been a pain in the rear since. Either the USB ports don't work, or the fan or it was the CPU and this last was the motherboard. I am guessing that HP has decided to build trash.
I am on an old Acer that is about 10 years old and many of the keys quit working, so for a while I might be a bit slow to validate people or do much admin work.

If you buy a new one Sony Vaio is a good one. That's what this one is and I've had it for maybe 5 years with no trouble.

The Dell I got from the "W" store _cheap_ came with Windows 8 which eventually got a follow up _free_ of Windows 8.1.
While I see why many people were unhappy with Windows 8, I'm getting used to finding what I want with this 8.1.
As for the computer itself, I use nearby unsecured wireless. My old Dell collapsed. My friend simply would not take to repair service. My other friend parted with an old Toshiba. The Dell picked up the signal much better than the Toshiba. So does this new one.

They had the Sony and I should have gotten it, but the HP had or said it had features I needed. When and if I get the HP back and it breaks again I will get on my soapbox and scream for either my money back or exchange for the Sony.

Win 8 came on the HP too, and I did upgrade it to 8.1, but I also added more features and it really looks and runs like Win7 but with some of the good options that come with Win8. I'm just very unhappy with the laptop.

Look into Lenovo computers. They are great, low prices, very reliable. Fabulous reviews. www.lenovo.com/us/en/

Since you are doing all the work and we are reaping all the benefits, would it be possible to set up a donations section? Toward a new computer. Don't want our Administrator down. Just a suggestion.

C.P. was talking about windows 8, I'm on my desk top computer now. I've had it for years and it's a H.P., anyway it's got windows XP in it and a single core processor. I read where Micro soft in April will no longer support windows X.P.. That means no more updates. If the the computer crashes there will be no more down loads like serveice packs....It will be a true Dinosaur then. I might need to break down and buy another one.....I am frugal.

I'm ok, just irks me that you spend big bucks on something and it fails to deliver. Thanks anyway but I can handle it, if HP can't fix it then I will request a new computer.

You can get a bad one in anything, we know that. H.P. Is usually a reliable computer. Chances are if you bought another one it would work out fine. I would still chose a Sony over a H.P., you might pay a little more but in the long run it would be worth it.

Irritating to say the least. I agree they would definitely have to come up with a product that works and delivers what it promised. Bought one HP, will never buy another one, it was a mess from day one. Oh the donations, several sites I go to have a donation section, to help cover cost, their time and effort, which is extensive, helps cover everything. Good luck with the computer.

Love my Apple iMac and will not buy another HP or Dell, we own and use both desktop and a laptop. As for Laptops a good used w/warranty would be a Panasonic Toughbook. Most law enforcement officers have them. I used one for 9 years with my secular employment in the field, dropped it from 6 feet with cables attached. Closed the cover and opened it back up like it never had been dropped. A little scratch on a corner. toughruggedlaptops.com/refurbished-toughbook-tough-rugged-laptops.html?gclid=CIKuuuGK47wCFY8-MgodX3AAEA

I looked at that tough book and it very low on memory and hard drive. and a single core processor. That computer is dated.

I looked at a tough book but it was expensive for what you get. Besides the board here, I have to deal with large databases, some are close to a terabyte in size so it has to not only move data at a high rate, it has to processes it too, so I need as many cores as possible, plus at least 8 to 12 gig of RAM.
I did get this HP back today and restored it. I hope it is working like I need it to.
