I wonder if flu shots actually work, they urge everyone to get a shot. Then right in the middle of flu season when lots of people have the flu they say they are ineffective to a large degree.
My Mom is over 65 and they said last year that the shot was only 12% effective on older people, that would make it nearly 90% ineffective....not good, it seems hardly worth it.

I got mine at Walgreens this morning anyway. Less paper work this time, only 6 questions to answer.

I had a series of three flu shots in the Army, they were administered one right after the other. I have never had the flu since. I haven't bothered to get a flu shot since then either. I had the shots in 1970. Before that, I used to get the flu and was miserable for weeks.
I heard a couple of years ago that research doctors were examining the possibility of combining several flu shots to increase the effectiveness of the inoculation.
It may be that some soldiers had a bad reaction to the shots. I participate in some Army chat rooms and I heard from one soldier who had the shots and said they made him very sick. He also though, has never had the flu since.

You are very fortunate, I just got a high dose flu shot intended for those over 65. Because of other health issues they gave it to me.
The regular flu shot contains protection against 3 strains of flu likely to crop up this season, the high dose protects against 4 strains.
You never know what to believe, some say the flu shots a ineffective while the CDC say they are between 70% and 90% effective.

I get one every year since about 95. The first time I got one, it was in the service, I got the flu. At that time I think it was because they were using a live virus and about half the people who got the shot got the flu soon after. I did get one for the 4 and a half years I was in but didn't get another one until 95. I haven't had the flu, but have had colds. I also get my pneumonia shot every few years. I have a very limited immune system and so shots are common. I'll get my shot next month, the VA is waiting on its supply and it is suppose to be here the first of Oct.

I don't know your age but if you can get the high dose flu shot. 3 Years ago was the worse year ever for colds. My Mom caught a cold and gave it to me...thanks Mom. It lasted 3 weeks. I was over that cold for a couple days and I ended up in the hospital for other reasons, while in there I caught another cold that lasted another 3 weeks. I went it seems most of the winter sick. I hope that doesn't happen again.

I got the flu shot again as I always do and now they tell me it's only 10% effective. I read sometime ago that there was a study in Japan on flu shots. They went 3 years and almost everyone in the country got a flu shot and then they went the next 3 years and no one got a flu shot, the mortality rate was the same...no difference. So Japan stopped giving the flu shots, they concluded they don't work.

Speaking of shots... Got a shingles shot several years ago and got the shingles this year. Found out that 1 in 5 will still get the shingles even with the shot. By the way shingles are painful and don't let anybody tell you they aren't.

I have had the pneumonia shot as well. I have had shingles twice. I want to get the shingles shot but my insurance won't cover it.

I don't think I've ever had a flu shot. If so, it was so long ago I've forgotten about it. It may be risky to do without, but then it might be risky to get one, too.

Back in the 60s & 70s they used a live virus and it was risky to get one then, but today they don't and it is safe. It only is for the flu, has no effect on a cold. Getting it is up to you and nobody can force you to get one. Just for information though, if you are close to or around someone with a compromised immune system it would be wise to have one anyway. Still up to you to do what you feel you need to do. Admin
